Nissan TITAN named North American Truck of the Year finalist

December 26th, 2016 by

Getting named for an award is a great feeling – but even then, some awards carry more weight than others. Very few awards have more prestige than the North American Truck of the Year, and for the second straight year, a Nissan TITAN model has been named a finalist for the award. Following behind its bigger, heavy-duty brother in the TITAN XD, the 2017 Nissan TITAN half-ton series has been selected as one of three finalists for the 2017 North American Truck of the Year.

For 24 years, this award has been handed out at the North American International Auto Show, held in January. Featuring input from over 50 independent automotive journalists and critics across Canada and the United States, it is one of the few awards not controlled by a single outlet. This allows for opinions from radio, magazines, web sites, and more to be part of the discussion. So what do they look for, and how does the 2017 Nissan TITAN meet their criteria?

Innovation

Inside and out, the 2017 Nissan TITAN features the latest in innovations. TITAN box and the Utili-track cargo management system make dealing with loads a breeze. The Trailer Light Check system makes it so you can check all trailer brake light connections with the Nissan Intelligent Key – even if you don’t have a spotter, you can make sure your load is safe for the road.

Comfort

Seating for up to five is available, with Single Cab and Crew Cab options. A King Cab version is expected later in the year, adding even more room to the already spacious interior.

Handling

A powerful V8 engine produces 390 horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque, meaning the TITAN can handle a payload of up to 1,940 pounds, or tow up to 9,730 pounds behind it. While opting for the Crew Cab reduces these numbers slightly, it still leaves the TITAN half-ton as an incredibly capable, versatile truck. A V6 is expected to arrive later in 2017, for a more fuel-efficient option.

Safety

With advanced Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Moving Object Detection, the TITAN strives for the safety of those inside the vehicle, as well as those around the vehicle.

Driver Satisfaction

Nissan is continually rated highly for customer experience and support, and the TITAN benefits from this. It also benefits from “America’s Best Truck Warranty,” a 5-year/100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty with basic and powertrain coverage.

Nissan has always focused on the bottom line – providing an incredible vehicle for a budget-friendly price. Combining a low price tag with extensive options and reliability helps make the TITAN a value that is nearly impossible to match.

All of these make for a good argument as to why the 2017 Nissan TITAN is an excellent candidate for the 2017 North American Truck of the Year, and we expect that it will make a great showing. It’s already got a number of awards to its name – among them, the “Full-size Truck of Texas,” “Commercial Vehicle of Texas,” and “Best Value” awards from the Texas Auto Writers Association, along with winning the “Extreme Off-Road” title from the Active Lifestyle Vehicle Awards.
